Filmmaker Anil Sharma’s Gadar 2 made news right when it was announced two years ago as the sequel to the historic blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which had released in 2001. The film, starring Sunny Deol in an action-packed role, had the backdrop of India’s participation of 1947. It told the story of Tara Singh’s (Sunny) efforts to bring back his wife Sakeena (Ameesha) from Pakistan. The film’s sequel, which released on August 11, is also set to make history at the box office.

After a huge opening at Rs. 40.10 crores, the film had impressive jump in the next two days as it went onto earn Rs. 43.08 crores and Rs. 51.70 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The weekend total of Gadar 2 comes down to a mammoth Rs. 134.88 crores.

This is easily the highest weekend number any Ameesha Patel film has recorded. It’s also the highest number she has achieved at a box office and the film is set to earn much more.

Ameesha’s second highest weekend number was with the Aamir Khan starrer Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), which earned Rs. 9.59 crores in its first weekend. This is followed by Abbas-Mustan’s romantic thriller Humraaz (2002) with Rs. 4.48 crores. Interestingly, the next film in the list is Gadar: Ek Prem Katha with Rs. 4.08 crores.
